Strange encounters...

Tonight, while I was at home watching TV, something very strange occurred. It is about 11pm and the house is pretty well dark. Out of nowhere, a small hispanic gentleman start knocking on the door and ringing the door bell. I am not expecting anyone especially this late. I open the door and ask him what is going on. He starts talking very quickly about it being cold outside, going to the shelter, and then asks me for a blanket. I am very puzzled by his behavior and told him to wait a minute. Kristi is freaking out because she can hear what is going on from the couch. I shut the door and went into our closet and grabbed an old blanket and told Kristi what was happening. I opened the door again and handed the man the blanket to which he was very appreciative. He jabbered some more about things being better if people did more of this which confused me more. I told him to have a good night and shut the door. Still a little confused at this point, I walked into the bedroom and watched the guy wrap himself up in the blanket and walk down the street and out of sight. I, then, walked outside because I heard my neighbor moving his truck. He told me he saw the guy walk straight up to my door and then walk straight out of the neighborhood. My neighbor thought we knew the guy and thought nothing of it until I told him I have never seen him before and told him what happened. He thought it was really weird. I now have no idea what to make of the whole situation. My human side tells me to be on guard and be concerned about the true intentions of the visitor. Was he scoping out my house? Did he intend to break in? Scary questions. My redeemed side thinks that Hebrews 13:2 in motion. The author here tells us that we need "not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." So again, I do not know what happened tonight. I do know that God's mystery is just that, His. And his grace is sufficient in all strange encounters. Entertain in grace and peace.

God is good...all the time?

At Thanksgiving this year, things were a little different. The normal group was not around and a difficult year had preceded this normally festive holiday. So to change things up, everyone came to our house. Great fun! On Saturday night, my dad gathered us all together and took time to reflect on the year that was. It was many things to us: difficult, rough, survived, and full of change are a few things that we mentioned. In this process, the phrase "God is good" was stated. I'm not sure who said it but I added "all the time." And with that said, my little brother said "no, that is not right." I was a little stunned by this but said nothing and just remembered it. It has stayed with me this long as I have been thinking it over and over again. This year has quiet honestly sucked for me yet this phrase has stayed with me. I continue to think that God is good all the time, even when I don't think so, for one reason: It is who he is. He cannot change the fact of his goodness. The things that I believe to be bad and terrible he uses for good. The situations that arise that seem bleak and dreadful are things that he already knows about and has already provided my needs for through the situation. I do not and will not ever understand the reasoning behind every trial and struggle that I face but I know in his goodness he will guide me through. He is good all the time because his nature demands that goodness be apart of it. He is also just, righteous, and holy but he is good. So I stand by my statement: God is GOOD all the time!

When things go bad...

You are not a god
Created by human hands
You are not a god
Dependant on any mortal man
You are not a god
In need of anything we can give
By Your plan, that’s just the way it is

You are God alone
From before time began
You were on Your throne
Your are God alone
And right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
You are God alone

You’re the only God
Whose power none can contend
You’re the only God
Whose name and praise will never end

You’re the only God
Who’s worthy of everything we can give
You are God
And that’s just the way it is

You are God alone
From before time began
You were on your throne
You are God alone
And right now
In the good times and bad
You are on Your throne
You are God alone

Unchangeable
Unshakable
Unstoppable
That’s what You are

You are GOD alone!!!

I am glad that is just the way He is.

To your knees...

I am calling all you prayer warriors to action out there. I have several friends that need some serious Jesus help. So here they are and thanks for your help.

Justin- Friend at work getting divorce, not dealing well with the stress
Trent- My best boy, his grandpa (cool old guy) is not doing well and may not make it through the summer. Trent's wife is also having a baby in early September. This is scary because Trent is still trying to grow up himself.
San Antonio Rev Weekend- This was formerly known as DNow. All of the leaders are spending time with teenagers discussing the importance of the family and what treasures they are. Pray for travel and God's presence.

There ya'll go. Do your thing. Much love and Pray hard.

In Search Of...

I have never liked looking for a church. There is so much you want to have in the place you join but then again you want to have something to work for. We aren't called or equipped to join the perfect church but instead we are in search of a place that can use our talents and gifts to make it what God wants it to be. We need to be fed but we need to feed as well. I say all this because this is what we have been doing since July so it is always on my mind. Belonging and nutrition are very important and the rest will come into place as we seek the face of God.

In other news, though it is very hush hush (and I will share more on it later), a good friend of mine is getting married in March and it is very exciting. We all knew it would eventually happen with him and this girl because they are awesome together. I'm still say I'm too young for everyone I know to be getting married. HA HA!

In closing, the SUper Bowl does not excite me that much but I'm still going to watch it and I am pulling for the NFC. Why you ask?... Why not? Go Seahawks!

I will talk to some of you soon and see some of you later. Much love.
